Let’s All Chip In!

About Chipping Away at a Cure

Founded in 2016 by the Duncan Family. Chipping Away at a Cure is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness and funds for cancer research. Since its inception, Chipping Away at a Cure has partnered with the BC Cancer Foundation and Field’s Trees, and has been generously supported by Oh Christmas Tree Farm in Langley, BC. For those looking for a convenient and charitable way to dispose of their Christmas Tree, please considering donating it to Chipping Away at a Cure. 100% of all donations go to the BC Cancer Foundation.

2022 Pickups Are Closed

We would like to thank everyone for their requests and donations, but due to overwhelming requests and support, we are no longer accepting any more pick-up requests for 2022. We look forward to seeing you in 2023.

We kindly request…

  • that your tree is left out front of your home or curbside in an easily accessible location.
  • that you do not leave your tree in its stand outside (in the past, some have frozen ☺).
  • that you inform us if your tree is larger than 10 feet in length.
  • that you remove all decorations from the tree.
  • that you do not wrap the tree in a plastic bag.

Because of the amount of tree pick up requests and our interest in planning the most efficient pick up route, we are unable to guarantee pick up time, but we can guarantee pick up day as long as your request is made two days in advance of the day you’d like your tree to be picked up.

At present, we service only the Surrey and Langley communities.  We start early, so please leave your tree out front the night before or early the morning of your requested pick up day.  In the past, some people have gotten an unexpected early morning wake-up call from us.  If your tree is not out front when we come by, we may not have time to circle back to you, so please do make sure your tree is available for pick up.

What We Do

As a family, we rent a large moving van and drive it around the community picking up trees from residences of people who have requested a tree pick up.  This is a hassle free, contactless pick up service perfect for those who have mobility issues, those that lack a large vehicle to transport their tree to a tree chipping site, or those that really dislike vacuuming pine needles from their car or truck☺.

We trust that you will make your donation whenever convenient for you the day that your tree is picked up or in advance of that date if you’d prefer.

We do not accept cash donations.  All donations are made online via our fundraising page on BC Cancer Foundation’s site and 100% of all donations go directly to the BC Cancer Foundation.  There is no minimum donation required.

Thank you in advance for your generous contribution to cancer research.  We appreciate you “chipping in!”

Our Mission

Our mission is simple – to provide a valuable and convenient service to members of the community in an effort to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.  We want to thank all the volunteers that contribute their time and energy to this event and to the various businesses and organizations that lend their support in a variety of ways.  A special thank you to Cotala Cross Media Inc. for designing and maintaining our site for us and to Field’s Tree & Stump Service for providing the chipper.
